The Gift of Giving

Why give gifts?

Because, Giving is Good for You.

Not only does giving help you feel good in the moment, scientific studies have shown that gifting or spending money on others can:

  • increase happiness
  • reduce the effects of stress
  • lower blood pressure
  • promote connection with others, and
  • enhance gratitude.

Giving is especially good for your emotional wellbeing and happiness. Science demonstrates that the brain of a giver secretes neurochemicals that enhance mood, pleasure and a sense of connection.

So, gifting is great but what do you give to those who already have it all, or the “no gifts required” ilk. Well, charity donations are a magnanimous way to celebrate the giftee and contribute goodness to those who may be more in need. Research on using our money to help others, also known as prosocial spending, can turn up our happiness levels and improve our mental and emotional wellbeing.

As wonderful as spending money on others is, there are those times of course when money is tight, and these are the times when smaller meaningful gifts or giving of your time can really make a difference. Research on volunteering in younger and older volunteers has shown that people who volunteer their time not only have better psychological wellbeing but also live longer. If you are really stuck for a gift idea for the person who has everything, why not invite them to a volunteering session, that way you both get to feel good while giving.

Remember, at the end of the day, it’s really about presence, not presents that can make the biggest impact on our health and wellbeing. Our aim at is to save you time in finding healthy and helpful gifts for your loved ones and friends, so you can spend more time together. Our hope is we’ll also inspire you to encourage those around you to pursue healthy ways to have fun, be active and laugh more because movement, happiness and laughter are gifts in themselves.

Here’s to the health of you and yours!
